There are many misconceptions regarding astrology. For instance, the horoscopes listed in the daily newspapers are only based on the sign position of the Sun, whereas full natal astrology takes many more things into account. The application of astrology to people can be approached as a study of individuality, from either a psychological perspective or on a predictive, event-based level. Astrology is a tool to gain objective awareness of your own patterns of behavior. We all have tendencies that lead to inappropriate actions and feelings of isolation and unhappiness. The trick is to discover our own “glitches” and empower ourselves to avoid them. With this objective knowledge we can choose to make adjustments that result in our life operating more smoothly. Astrology itself is not “spiritual,” yet it can be an effective tool for opening the way to accessing our spirituality. By understanding our psychological wiring (as objectively pictured in the astrology chart) we can accept and work with ourselves with more understanding and detachment. This calms the turmoil of the inner personality and allows our innate spiritual nature to emerge. And by understanding the psychological wiring of others through their astrological charts, we can more easily accept their unique differences without taking it so personally; we can learn to enjoy the variety rather than seeking to change others into an extension of ourselves. So although astrology itself is not spiritual, it can lead to important spiritual experiences, such as unconditional loving acceptance of ourselves and others.

QUERY: What is a Black Moon?

RESPONSE: Nearly everyone has heard of the Blue Moon, a rare astronomical occurrence that happens when two Full Moons occur in the same calendar month. A lesser known astronomical rarity is the Black Moon which occurs when there are two New Moons in the same calendar month. The Black Moon is considered a highly occult entity that has always been recognized and honored by Ceremonial Magicians and Wiccans. Rituals and spells conducted during the Black Moon are believed to be in effect from one Black Moon cycle to the next. The cycle generally runs for approximately three years. The influence of this Moon is believed to be “other worldly” and practitioners can tap into portals which open into other dimensions including everything from the Faerie Realm to the planes of the Ascended Masters. Paranormal investigators would find the energy of this Moon conducive to supernatural events, ghosts and haunting whereby actual communication with “spirits” could be easily achieved. All of this is possible because the dual New Moons are associated with altered states of awareness, higher consciousness and collective wisdom. Try making a “Wish Lists” during the next Black Moon. Simply write down ten wishes during the eight hours after a Black Moon and keep it in a handy place where you can easily access it and read it at random times over the ensuing year. QUERY: An astrologer once told me you could find out about a past life by calculating your chart backwards. Is this true?

RESPONSE: This would not be the method I would use however, the calculation your astrologer friend mentioned is known as Converse Directions. This type of calculation progresses or pushes a horoscope backwards. It uses the principle of progressions, a day for a year, but in reverse where you count backward instead of forward. As far as a past life is concerned, I guess it would depend on your point of view. The general rule of thumb is that Converse Directions are used to glean information about innate talents and behavior since the horoscope concerns a “prebirth” time. This same information can be obtained by casting pre-natal epoch charts such as the Bailey charts. I would imagine that it would be a more interesting experiment if an individual had an actual date to work with possibly obtained through a past life regression session. Other than that, how would one know how far to reverse progress a horoscope since there “could” be a lapse in time from one incarnation to the next?

QUERY: I love shows about forensics. Is there such a thing as a forensic astrologer?

RESPONSE: Indeed there is! Forensic Astrologers study the criminal mind and predict patterns of behavior. The police have been known to use the services of forensic astrologers to help them solve cases. Astrologer Victoria Hill, a research member of the American Federation of Astrologers, helped the Freemont California police catch the Freemont bomber Rodney Blach. Blach was an amatuer astrologer who was using astrology to time the bombings. Vicki worked tirelessly on the case without compensation (2000 hours of unpaid time) helping to convict Blach. Despite the danger Blach posed to herself and her family should he ever be released from prison, Vicki bravely testified in court, astrology findings in hand.

QUERY: What is a Moon Wobble?

RESPONSE: A Moon Wobble is an astrological cycle that reflects chaos, upheaval, and at its worst, catastrophe. On a personal level and in connection to an individual’s chart, it indicates a time of over-emotionalism that can magnify problems which are connected to life changes. A wobble occurs when the transiting Sun makes contact with the Lunar Nodes by conjunction (0°) or square (90°) aspect and this happens approximately four times a year. Its effect is thought be prolonged if it occurs during a Mercury Rx period. The Moon Wobble was discovered by astro-mathematician astrologer Carl Payne Toby.

QUERY: I cannot figure out why sometimes the usual annoyances that accompany a Mercury Retrograde period seem to last longer than the allotted time period of the actual retrograde itself! I have experienced problems sometimes for two weeks after the period is over. Why is that?

RESPONSE: I am often asked this question! Discounting other astrological factors that might be affecting your chart, you are probably feeling the effects of the period known as the Shadow of Mercury Retrograde. When Mercury comes to the end of its retrograde period, it stops or stations and then proceeds to move direct. From this point, until it reaches the exact degree and sign where it was when it first went retrograde is known as the “Shadow” of the period. During the time it is commencing back to its original place, Mercury will once again “trigger” some of the same points that it did when it was retrograde leaving the individual rather disgruntled at having to “deal” with a few more frustrations. Of course, this can also be a positive thing if there was something in the individual’s life that perhaps needed a “second look.”

QUERY: I know about the centaur Chiron in astrology but, someone told me there are other centaur archetypes like him. Is this true? If it is – can you tell me about any others?

RESPONSE: Yes, there are other centaur archetypes in astrology which can usually be found in the asteroid section of good astrology software. The other centaurs are: Pholus, who is connected to overcoming substance abuse while bringing peacefulness to the Self; Nessus, who provides a healthy balance in relationships and daily needs including financial issues; Asbolus, who assists in the development of the initiative faculties; Chariklo, who aids in the assessment of personal psychological and energetic boundaries and Hylonome, whose gift is to heal grief and regret. Chiron of course is the Master Healer.

QUERY: I have been in a good relationship for about 18 months and we are thinking about getting engaged in the near future. A friend of mine told me it would be a good idea to have an astrologer check out more about our compatibility. Can you tell me how that works?

RESPONSE: When checking compatibility, a professional astrologer will work with two charts – a Synastry and a Composite. The Synastry is an analysis of the interchart exchange of two people, in other words, a planet to planet comparative. The Composite is a hypothetical chart that is calculated via the midpoints (middle distance) between the planets of the individual charts. The Composite represents the “relationship” and can reveal important insight. Some couples also enjoy having a Karmic Synastry cast by an astrologer who specializes in Karmic issues to see if they had a past life together.

QUERY: Can you tell me about the astrological signatures connected to sleeping and dreaming?

RESPONSE: Certainly! Dreaming and sleeping generally fall under the jurisdiction of the planet Neptune and the 12th house. Nightmares can include the influence of the planet Pluto or Saturn and sometimes the Moon. The waking state falls under the jurisdiction of the planet Mercury and the 3rd house. Sleeplessness also falls under the jurisdiction of Mercury and includes agitation caused by the sign of Aries and the planet Mars. Daydreaming is Neptune ruled.

QUERY: Please settle an argument… I say all water is ruled by Pisces and Neptune and my friend says the answer is Cancer and the Moon. Who is correct?

RESPONSE: Well – you both are correct! Pisces and Neptune rule all salt water and Cancer and the Moon all fresh or running water.

QUERY: I have been reading up on the life and times of Nostradamus. In one article I read it stated that one of his most powerful predictive tools was the use of ingresses. Can you tell me what this is?

RESPONSE: Generally speaking, ingress occurs when the transiting Sun moves into one of the four Cardinal points of the zodiac which are the Spring Equinox, the Summer Solstice, the Autumnal Equinox, and the Winter Solstice. The nature of Cardinality is aggressive and it initiates change and movement so to use these points as part of prediction would be powerful.

QUERY: Could you give me some insight about the Vertex Point in a chart?

RESPONSE: The Vertex Point is a theoretical point in the heavens where the ecliptic (the apparent orbit of the Sun around the Earth) crosses the Prime Vertical (the plane that turns at right angles to the meridian and divides the celestial sphere from front to back). The theory was postulated by astrologer L. Edward Johndro in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The word vertex comes from the Latin vertre which means to turn or change, crown, summit or crest. The Vertex always falls on the western side of the chart between the 5th and 8th houses. It is sensitive point linked to fateful encounters with others, sudden epiphanies, and turning points in life over which the individual has no control. The Vertex Point is thought to take on greater meaning if it is connected by conjunction to a personal natal planet or Node OR when it is at Critical Degree – Cardinal signs 0°,13°,26°, Fixed signs 9°, 21°, and Mutable signs 4°,17°.

QUERY: Where would you look in a chart to find out information about a psychic attack? I would also like to know about astral travel.

RESPONSE: As to your first query – this is an interesting question and I hope it is being asked solely out of curiosity. Information about a psychic attack can be found in the 8th and 12th houses of a chart. The 12th house holds jurisdiction over psychic experiences and disturbances and one’s receptivity to such things and the 8th house helps define the active intent. The 12th house is also the house of hidden enemies and normally the person engaging a psychic attack tries to stay hidden or anonymous. Be sure that you understand what constitutes such an act. By way of explanation a psychic attack is actually psychic vampirism. The intended target often feels “drained” of energy.
