The Little Book Of Cosmic Horrors

Forums:

The Augsburg Book of Miracles (aka. The Little Book of Cosmic Horrors) is a classic example of strange Christian art. It's full of visions of the Apocalypse, and God's disturbing signs throughout history. It even includes the Old Testament's weirdest scene, the vision of Ezekiel, depicting a "living creature" and an Ophanim (aka. Bible Accurate Angels).

In this video, let's explore this bizarre text and figure out the meaning behind its unique contents. There are some phenomena that we can explain: from doomsday comets to sun dogs. Although many have no rational explanation.

The fact that little is known about the book's origin, only adds to the mystery... Its scenes of calamity and chaos, and eerie hybrid creatures that defy logic, remind me of HP Lovecraft, whose gothic stories of dark magic and profane deities explore the fragile limits of human knowledge. He pioneered the genre of Cosmic Horror, where the fear of "otherness" is central.
