Solar Eclipse In Vedic Astrology

Eclipses occur several times a year, and there seems to be nothing special about them. But in fact total eclipses of the Sun and the Moon cause a lot of important events – both in the world and in the lives of ordinary people.

In the case of solar eclipse any of the node (Rahu or Ketu) is within 15 degrees of the Sun’s longitude. If this difference is within 15 degree (less than 15 degrees) the eclipse is assured. If the degrees are between 15 and 18 there is a possibility of eclipse. If the difference is more than 18 degrees there are no chances of eclipse. It takes approximately 18 years for it to occur back into the same zodiac sign. The cycle is carried forward by approximately 10 degrees and an eclipse at the same degree of the same sign will occur every 651 years.

Eclipses always mean crisis. Now, crisis is not necessarily a bad thing; however, wherever an eclipse falls in your chart is an area of life that is going to undergo some change, or at least require more of your time and attention than usual for the next five months or so.

Solar eclipses are far more important the Lunar Eclipses. The house where the Solar Eclipse falls in your chart will be the main focus of crisis for the next five months.

We feel the influence of eclipses on us the strongest when they aspect by transit a particular point in our birth chart – an axis or a planet.

Eclipse may operate unfavorably in a horoscope when they fall in conjunction with or opposition to any important points such as Sun, Moon, Malefic planets, Rahu and Ketu and other sensitive points of the natal horoscope. On the other hand, it falls in trine to the Sun, Moon and sensitive points when in conjunction with benefit planets like Jupiter, Venus or Neptune the action is favorable. The permissible orbit is 5°. The tighter the orb of the aspect, the more substantive events an eclipse brings. An eclipse is most powerful when it falls within 1° of our personal planets or axes.

There are a few simple keys to understanding how an Eclipse works. An Eclipse doesn’t necessarily make its effects known the day it hits. Rather, an Eclipse marks out a point in your birth chart that stays in effect until the next set of Eclipses. That point is sensitive to transits, and how it manifests in your life will depend on a couple of factors:

1) Which House of your birth chart the Eclipse falls in. One of the old-school astrological rules about Eclipses that I find works well is that an Eclipse will have much more dramatic results if it falls above the horizon in your birth chart — in other words, in your 7th to 12th Houses. If an Eclipse falls below the horizon in your birth chart, you shouldn’t dismiss it entirely, but you shouldn’t lose any sleep over it either.

2) If an Eclipse closely conjuncts, opposes, or squares (within about 3 or 4 degrees) an important point in your birth chart (a major planet, the Ascendant/Descendant, or the Midheaven/IC), then pay attention! That Eclipse is likely to have a significant effect.

Finally: remember that Eclipses tend to bring surprises, but not all surprises are necessarily bad.

The eclipse energy is often felt within a month on either side of the eclipse day. The affects generally last for approximately six months. There are also specific events astrologically that can trigger more. When the sun squares the eclipse degree about 90 days later, you may receive communication information
within a few days on either side of that date. Mars is often a trigger for eclipse that relate to activities. Watch Mars transit across the eclipse degree or square the eclipse degree, 90 degrees past the eclipse. When the sun opposes the eclipse six months later, this time may finalize something related to the eclipse or you may have a position on an new circumstances.

At best, the effect of a solar eclipse can amplify insights gained from a very balanced left and right brain. The Solar eclipse is very good at showing up any imbalances you have. Eg, You are on one leg in tree pose and the Solar eclipse pokes you in the side. The amount of wobble shows how much centering you need to do. A Solar Eclipse can bring an awakening or a shocking revelation that rocks you to the core. It aims to balance out left and right brain hemispheres and therefore consciousness so that you are not lopsided.

According to Vedic Astrology, is that eclipses can be a terrible time to start or end projects, relationships, jobs, or any other important thing in the material world. This is because auspicious beginnings are blessed with light, ideally the light of a healthy, full Moon and the daytime Sun.

The nakshatra in which an eclipse falls will also give a clue to its effect on both nations and individuals. Generally, the nakshatra, and whatever it symbolizes, will be spoiled for the next six months after the eclipse. For this reason various remedial measures have been prescribed by the ancient Vedic Rishis in order to counteract the effect of an eclipse in each nakshatra.

With Rahu and Ketu gobbling up this light and warping it in unseen ways, anything you start could turn out very strangely, and you may regret ending something as well. So it’s not advisable – on the day of an eclipse ( or the few days surrounding it) to start an important new project, sign a contract, make a deal, or any other material activity if you have another option. Eclipses are generally not times for new commitments. Receive, don’t act. Especially regarding new ventures – like marriage, business contracts, moving house etc. If an opportunity presents itself during eclipse season, sit with it. Don’t be so quick to act.

During Solar Eclipse, the sunlight gets blocked and does not reach the Earth, especially in regions where eclipse is most visible. This is also the time when negative energies are more active and may cause adverse effects on our life. Therefore, it is necessary for people to know the timings of eclipse, its rules and certain astrological precautions to avoid the bad results of Solar Eclipse.

Sutak Kaal – The Inauspicious Period to Commence Tasks

In Hinduism, Sutak Kaal is that period when certain tasks are strictly prohibited. The reason being that it is considered inauspicious to perform them in this duration, otherwise they may give bad results. Generally, it begins before an eclipse and ends after taking a bath, when the eclipse ends. It is important to note that the rules of Sutak Kaal are not applicable on children, sick and elderly people.

Things to Avoid during Solar Eclipse

Beginning a new task.

Preparing or eating food during Sutak period.

Going to the toilet/washroom.

Touching idols of the deities and Basil (Tulsi) plant.

Cleaning of teeth, combing of hair, etc.

Things to Do during Solar Eclipse

Meditate, exercise, pray and worship the God.

Chant Surya Mantra “ॐ Adityaya Vidmahe Divakaraya Dhimahi Tanno Suryah Prachodayat”.

After Surya Grahan, sprinkle Gangajal to purify your home.

Take a bath and also bathe the idols of the deities after Grahan ends. Then, worship the Gods.

Eat fresh food after Sutak Kaal ends.

If you have prepared food before Sutak Kaal, do not waste it. In fact, put basil leaves to purify it, and then have it.

Donation to a Brahmin or needy should also be done after Surya Grahan ends.

Things to Remember by Pregnant Women

Pregnant women should take special precautions during Solar Eclipse 2019. Why? Because it is believed that an eclipse affects a pregnant woman. In this duration, they should avoid going out of their home as well as avoid seeing Grahan. They should not do any activities related to stitching, embroidery, cutting and peeling. It is believed that using such tools (knife or needle) during Surya Grahan may damage the body parts of the unborn child.

Also as per religious texts, the rays of the sun can have adverse effects on the child in the womb. It is also said that the woman who peeps out or comes out of their home during Solar Eclipse, their chances of miscarriage increases. The child born due to this may be more prone to Cancer. Therefore, pregnant women are highly advised to remain at home during Solar Eclipse

What kinds of energetic shifts do eclipses signify?
These dynamic lunar phenomena were feared by our ancient ancestors. Early human civilizations built their societies around season changes and annual movements of the sun, so when an eclipse occurred they believed that the natural order had been compromised. To them, eclipses were a harbinger of danger — quite specifically, the apocalypse. Although we no longer connect these lunations to end days, astrologically speaking, eclipses are still a very big deal.

Just as new moons are linked to beginnings and full moons are tied to culminations, eclipses serve as celestial checkpoints. An eclipse is a high-octane lunation that helps illuminate our karmic path, but just as these cosmic events can be visually striking, eclipses can be a bit dramatic. Astrologically speaking, eclipses speed up time: They open new doors by slamming others shut, so we often find abrupt and sudden shifts occurring during eclipses. Though the shifts can be jarring, eclipses help us by speeding up the inevitable.

So, if you’ve been dragging your feet, eclipses will be sure to give you that extra push (or shove) needed to take action. While the results of eclipses can be shocking, remember that these lunations simply expedite the inevitable — these events were going to happen eventually.

Remember that endings are hard, but everything is cyclical: A culmination always occurs on the edge of a beginning.

Solar eclipses correspond with new beginnings and unexpected opportunities. However, since the sun (which symbolizes our external experience) is obscured by the moon (representing our emotional inner-world during this lunation, solar eclipse events often first begin internally. For many people, solar eclipses are when we realize we need more than what we’re currently receiving. They’re a time to send cosmic invitations to the universe and to welcome abundance.

Lunar eclipses, on the other hand, help us realize the external implications of these shifts. It is often during a lunar eclipse that we become aware of the influence of others. As the moon emits a mystifying umber tone, it allows us to be people under a different light. This shift in perspective is critical, though you may not always like what you see. During lunar eclipses, we are encouraged to let go of whatever is no longer serving the soul. This is the time to release, purge, and say goodbye. Remember, cosmic warriors, endings are hard, but everything is cyclical: A culmination always occurs on the edge of a beginning.
