YOU As The Next President

As another four year cycle winds down, it is time to elect a new president, here in the U.S.  While some seem to passionately support the two candidates from the two big political parties, many of us are not happy with the "choices" presented to us in this election.  I won't bore you by addressing specific problems and issues with each candidate but I will say that there are, in my view, thousands and perhaps millions of better people who could lead this country.  In fact, you, the reader, would probably make a better president.

Since we as an electorate, as a citizenry, seem to have fallen asleep at the wheel to have allowed this situation to arise, it is time we take back our power and responsibility for change in this country.  How do we do that?  For one, we can stop looking to our political leaders and our government as "Daddy," allowing the current political forces to dictate what kind of country we are going to have.  Entrusting our future to the Democrats and Republicans is a joke.  They are like two little kids in a sandbox flinging handfuls of sand into each other’s' eyes.  I know that, we, as a society, can do much better than that.  But it starts with each individual taking full responsibility, (or in the words of Navy Seal Jocko Willnik: Extreme Ownership) for what we are doing as a country.

Now imagine for a moment that YOU have just been elected our next President.  You are more than capable of handling this job.  What is it that you most want to accomplish over the next four years?  What's that ONE THING you most care about? Creating peace? (no more ongoing wars for corporate profit and economic gain)  Better education for our children?  To protect the environment and the health of the planet for future generations?  Better economic opportunity for the poor, the disenfranchised, and the hungry in this country and around the world?  To reform our political system?  (So that we don't have to go through this again)  To abolishing the prison-for-profit incarceration system we have?  To develop more green building and sustainability?  To stop allowing cancer-causing poisons to be sprayed in our soils?  To promote better cooperation and less cutthroat competition?  To cure diseases?  To ban GMO foods or Fracking?  To not allowing a private bank to control our money supply? Promoting more holistic and alternative health care practices?  What is it that stokes the fire of your passion and moves you into action?

Whatever it is, I challenge you to take this one thing on as YOUR responsibility over the next four years.  Write to your congressman or woman, your senators and other governmental officials that oversee that area of concern.  Be active in your community.  Sign petitions.  Find the organizations and the people that are already working toward a better future in that area.  Run for office yourself. Why not you?  I know we, as a people, have the power to change this country and change the world for the better.  But it's not going to happen without you and me.  It's not going to happen if we waste precious hours, energy and attention on things that don't matter.

As we look at all of the challenges facing us as a country, it can feel overwhelming.  But if we all pitch in and do our part, we can start making necessary changes for a better world.  That's why I am challenging you to just choose one thing, the main thing that you feel most passionate about and use your power, will, abilities and passion to affect positive change for yourself and others.  If every person in this country accepted this challenge, our country would be absolutely transformed over the next four years.

I believe in you, Mr. President. (or Madame President)  I know you can do great things for our country over the next four years.  And as President of The United States, it will be your duty to inspire others to join you in this cause to make real change and leave a lasting legacy that we can all be proud of.
