It's Real

In 2018, young, healthy Tina Hines had an unexpected cardiac arrest. Her husband, Brian Hines, worked on her until medical personnel arrived. He revived her four times. At the hospital, doctors revived her two more times. Tina was on a defibrillator, unable to breathe, when suddenly, she came back to life. The total time of “death” was estimated to be a remarkable 27 minutes.

Upon awakening, Tina was unable to speak because she was intubated, a endotracheal tube hanging from her mouth. She had something important she needed to share though. She motioned frantically for a pen and paper. A family member handed her a personal journal. Tina took the pen and with shaky hands, scrawled her message.

For a few minutes, family members stared at the written message. It looked like meaningless, child-like scribble, a foreign language with no significance. Then one family member spotted the message. Dangling downward and to the right were the words,

“It’s real”

Doctors, nurses, and family members did not understand. They asked her, “what’s real?”. Tears streaming from her eyes, Tina smiled and pointed to the sky.

Tina’s niece shared a photo of the drawing on social media. She noted:

Her story is too real not to share and has given me a stronger confidence in a faith that so often goes unseen. It has given me a tangibleness to an eternal hope that is not too far away. I love you Tina Hines.”

Her niece was so touched by the event, she had the message tattooed on her wrist. She tells the story of her aunt’s trip to the afterlife each time someone asks her what the strange scribble on her wrist means.
