Your Inner Symphony

“The late Edgar Cayce predicted that sound and music therapy would become the medicine of the future.”

I believe that each of us is a living symphony of frequencies. Over the years I have had very good success using sound for healing. Most of us who have gone to an alternative practitioner for whatever reason have certainly made note of the soothing music that is often played in the background during a session. However, what kind of effect can direct tones brought to our conscious awareness make?

I use nothing fancy, just a set of medical tuning forks … the kind often used in the doctor’s offices. Mine happen to be called Harmonic Spectral Tuners (shown above). You can pay a lot of money and buy an over-priced set or just go to a music store and pick up what you need a lot cheaper. Tuning forks are precise instruments that have the ability to change our inner tuning by creating a resonance throughout our mind, emotions, and body. They can do this by creating a vortex of sound that leads us into still point, which is a moment where everything seems to stop and we can re-tune ourselves. Our nervous system, like the string of a musical instrument, vibrates to the sound of the tuning forks.

A tuning fork treatment is non-intrusive and non-evasive.  There is no touching (unless weighted forks are being used), no needles, no pain or manipulation involved. You and your body simply “listen.” As the sounds flow through your body, every cell pulsates, resonates and interacts with the powerful vibrations, thus awakening the life energy of the cells and returning you to health and harmony. Here is a general list from Squidoo that has my full agreement regarding the benefits of sound therapy.

  • · Removes toxins
  • · Helps to heal soft tissue
  • · Increases physical energy
  • · Releases  ‘feel good’ endorphins
  • · Provides deep states of relaxation
  • · Synchronizes mind-heart-body rhythms
  • · Opens the meridians and clears the chakras
  • · Expands creativity, clarity, and concentration
  • · Harmonizes the emotional and physical bodies
  • · Integrates the left and right brain thought patterns
  • · Supports healthy circulation and immune system function
  • · Induces the alpha-theta brain states associated with healing

Science has proven that everything in the universe is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies or "notes." All things in nature vibrate to sound, light and color.

Medical science has demonstrated that the brain emits waves at different frequencies and that these frequencies are influenced by sound.  For instance, your brain has a different frequency when you are experiencing pain as opposed to when you are enjoying a favorite activity.  In addition, modern medical research has led physicians to use sound to heal the body.  For instance, today doctors use high-frequency ultrasound technology to heal broken bones more quickly. ~ Silvamindbodyhealing.com

Energy flows through your healthy body like a river, through a network of meridians and chakras. It plays a beautiful harmonic symphony but then life comes along adding its usual brand of discordance. Stress, negative emotions and thoughts, even the foods we consume affect the flow of energy, causing energy blocks. When the energy gets blocked, the body part where the blockage is can no longer resonate with the rest of the body “orchestra.” We cannot actually hear the resulting disharmony but our bodies will respond by showing unhealthy symptoms. Tuning fork therapy is similar to acupuncture but without the needles. A tuning fork placed near a chakra or distressed organ will raise the vibration of the affected area by entrainment or sympathetic resonance (the ability of one sound to shift the frequency of another). I have treated people who are supine by position or simply sitting in a chair. I have also sent resonation long distance. A person can heal their own body by simply listening to the resonations which I do daily. For those who are sensitive to sound and vibration, the sensations evoked and created by the forks can be very strong. As with all therapeutic tools, it is wise to go slowly, taking note of any changes or improvement in one’s condition.

Depicted in this illustration are the "tones" I use. These are traditional and standard.

Tuning forks emit pure sounds, that are represented as pure sine waves, without any harmonics. They can be used in a great variety of ways. They can be used individually, consecutively and simultaneously in pairs and in groups.

  • To activate a tuning fork, one holds the single stem, and strikes the fork on a block of hard rubber or wood covered in leather or fabric. It is struck in such a way that only one of the two prongs touches the striking block, that is, at 90º to the surface.
  • Do NOT strike the tuning forks against each other (you will damage them)
  • Do NOT strike the tuning forks on ultra hard surfaces
  • Do NOT touch the rapidly vibrating tuning fork to your teeth or anything glass - for what should be obvious reasons!

Physical Body: The stem of the activated fork can be placed on or near the bones and articulations to restore movement and flexibility, and aid the development of connective tissue. They stimulate the flow of lymph and blood to the area of application thereby speeding up the healing process, and promote deep relaxation and the elimination of built up stress and toxins from the joints.

Meridians: Using the “shu” points, which are the master points of each meridian, the Shiatsu points, reflexology points of the feet or spine, and other reflex points on the body, a vibratory signal can be sent more strongly and rapidly with a tuning fork than with a needle.

Chakras: Just about everyone knows the Chakras are spinning vortices of energy which correspond with and are located in the area of the major glands. They are visible to some people, and can be detected with modern equipment. The vibrating forks can be held or moved in a circular way around each chakra. NOTE: The subtle bodies are divided into layers, the first three of which most concern us at the present time of our evolution. In order of closeness to the body they are the etheric, the emotional or astral, and the mental energy layers. Tuning forks can be used to entrain the chakra or energy layer in which the fork is vibrating, harmonizing, balancing and assisting in the release of stuck energy which may have accumulated in the area.

Auditory: Placing the activated fork near the ears (no closer than 5cms) helps also to balance and regulate the metabolism of all the organs, which have a direct link to the auditory nerve. This also has a powerful regulatory effect on the entire nervous system, creating deep relaxation or stimulation, depending on which forks are used.

"If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is heard not only through our ears but through every cell in our bodies." ~ Dr. Mitchell Gaynor
