Do you believe in reincarnation?
Before I present this post, I would like to say up front that I am not a past life regressionist or at least not in the usual sense. There are two distinguished people who were both an inspiration and torches to my fire in pursuing reincarnative techniques via astrology, the late astrologer Patty McPhie and author and reincarnationist Joan Grant.
Several years ago I was taught some rather extraordinary astrological and cosmobiologic techniques by my mentor Patty McPhie (1948-2003) and Patty always knew that with me one thing always led to another (which of course it did). Patty worked with Neil Michelsen of Astro Computing Services who any astrologers reading this will recognize. Patty was a master astrologer in every sense of the word. Patty this one is for you.
Joan Grant was a famous writer. I came across the story of her life in an old metaphysical set of books while looking for general information on reincarnation. Her story immediately fascinated me. Not only did Joan write the bestseller Winged Pharaoh (published in 1937) which portrayed her past life as the daughter of a Pharaoh who was taught ‘far memory’ – she went on in later years to work with her husband Dr. Denys Kelsey and assisted him in counseling people who were suffering from past life traumas. I urge you to find out more about Joan on her official website www.joangrant.net and explore her life work.
In this matter-of-fact presentation I will dispense with the boring and complicated Astrologese and stick with just the dialog of a very unusual consultation session. Names have been changed in respect of privacy. All astrologers can look at the present and future and there are a few who can look at the past ... the very distant past for a chart discloses all. This has been transcribed from the session recording. My intention in presenting this is to show that recognition of past lives can be beneficial in healing fear, anxiety and trauma.
Tara, who had just graduated from High School came for her appointment accompanied by her mother a fellow metaphysician who had made the appointment hoping that a "different approach" could help Tara with some anxiety problems she had developed as a result of a "phobia" and that was all I was told. Tara was a typical teen and even though she didn't seem to mind that the appointment had been made, it was obvious she was going to politely put up with her Mom and the "other whacky" metaphysician her Mom had brought her to see. I had prepared and analyzed all the appropriate charts with some good results that I thought would be helpful to Tara.
None of us at that consultation was quite prepared for what happened.
Me: "Tara I am going to talk to you about a past lifetime I saw in your chart but first we will need to back up a bit. So do you mind a few questions?"
Tara: "No that's OK."
Me: "The timeline tells me that the root of your problems occurred when you about 14 years old. Is that correct."
Tara sat up a little straighter in her chair. I had her attention.
Me: "This looks to have been connected to school, possibly classroom. Is that correct?
Tara: "Yes it is!"
Me: "OK. Do not tell me about the incident yet. First I want to tell you a few things about that past life and then we can back up and put the pieces together. Agreed?"
Tara: "Yeah. This is kinda weird..."
Me: "Yes, I guess you could say that but I think you are going to be surprised or maybe not."
Mother: "I can't wait to hear this."
Me: "Let's talk generally about depression and anxiety for a moment. Speaking very basically now, there are two types of depression - reactive which is temporarily and based on reactions to current real life events such as loss and the other is biochemical which can either be chronic or intermittent and has to do with chemistry of the brain and/or other crucial systems that are hereditary. Biochemical/hereditary is most often related to natal chart aspects. In this type of Esoterica the term heredity includes that which can be residual from a past lifetime or many past lifetimes. A phobia is a morbid fear often based on depression. In your chart there are several propensities for trauma that have been "triggered" these past few years that are related and underlying your current issues. Those are atmosphobia which is a fear of atomic explosions and nucleomituphobia a fear of atomic weaponry. There is another they may have been bothering longer which is nyctophobia which a fear of the dark or the night. I believe these to be past life residual traumas that have bled through. They may be also at the base for your behavior. I cannot say that you are agoraphobic because you obviously can go outside but there is a reaction that is more specific like fear of crowds."
Tara: "How did you figure that out? How do you know that?!!!"
Me: "I don't know that, your chart references it."
Mother: "Some of those seem to be the bigger problem. I didn't even know about the fear of the dark. Is that right Tara?"
Tara: "Yes."
Me: "Now that these phobias have been identified, tell us how they affect you but don't give any details yet."
Tara: "Well, basically I have trouble going into big cities especially at night. It doesn't matter if I am alone or not. The idea of going into the city sets me off into an anxiety. If it's at night it's worse. I'm always looking over my shoulder for no reason. I also don't like to be in dark or dimly lit places."
Mother: "From what you've told me Tara and how I see you acting, this is starting to make sense."
Me: "Now I'll give you the past life astrothetics and afterwards you can you tell me what happened at school when you were 14 - OK?"
Tara: "Yeah ... is it bad?"
Me: "It was traumatic but I don't think you'll have a problem with it. You have to remember that we can't change the past but if we understand it there is a good chance we can overcome a few things that bother us now which is exactly why you're here. Ready?"
Tara and Mother nod affirmatively.
Me: "In that past life you were a male. You were a military man and it appears that you were a WWII fighter pilot. You were a strapping guy, unmarried, very military career oriented. There was literally no fear in you as a matter of fact, danger appealed to you. You were the type of person who grasped life by the forelock and lived it... a love of life person. You were decorated and due for a few more. You knew about the bomb and what it would mean in terms of devastation of life and it was disturbing to you yet you were a career soldier so you accepted it for the 'possibilities' and consequences."
Tara smiling.
Me: "You're smiling Tara..."
Tara: "Yeah... I think it's really cool that I was a guy and a fighter pilot. I actually feel good about it."
Mother: "Do you have any other details?"
Me: "A few. There was a nick-name but I don't know what that was. If you decide to do past life regression with a therapist that could be revealed. Getting back to what happened in that lifetime, it appears that your plane was hit while you were on a mission. It was near Normandy from what I can discern. You did not die right away. The plane was disabled. Debris either glass or metal hit your eyes and you were blinded. You could not see so you could not control the plane. You knew you were going to die and you were angry but not afraid. You literally died in darkness and this could be one of the roots of your fear of the dark."
Silence.
Tara: "Whoa..."
Me: "Did you want to say something?"
Tara: "No, no... keep going. This is so awesome."
Me: "Of course the plane went down and your life was ended. One detail that revealed itself in your charts was quite interesting and that was there was an insignia on your plane that wasn't what you would expect to see. You know many pilots had some sort of picture or logo on their planes that were personal. I don't know the exact design. It was symmetrical with hard edges, black and white, like a series of diamond shapes or something similar."
Mother: "Was it a star shape? ... lots of those old planes had stars."
Me: "No it was something unusual ... I can't say exactly except that is was angular and geometric."
I pause for a moment as something occurs to me literally out of the blue.
"Tara - do you have a tattoo by any chance?"
Tara grows clearly uncomfortable and shifts in her chair.
"Yeah, but my Mom doesn't know that I have it."
Mother: "Well that's for sure. Well what's done is done. Don't worry I'm not mad about it."
Tara turns bright red.
Mother: "Where is this tattoo?"
Tara: "On my lower back. I didn't want it to be obvious. I figured you'd pitch a s-it fit."
Me: "Well now that it's out of the bag, can we see it?"
Tara nods, gets up from her chair, turns around and lifts the back shirt. The tattoo was all black, no other colors. It was a geometric pattern with clean edges, mostly diamond shaped. Underneath the design was a wavy banner that said, "Love Of Life."
Mother: "Oh my God!
That was unexpected but quite inspiring just the same.
Me: "Now tell us what happened in class."
Tara: "It was in history class. Our teacher brought in a movie about Hiroshima. It was really pretty bad. It showed lots of people hurt and it was so disgusting. At the end of the movie the teacher said, 'All of you need to get used to it because it will happen again in your lifetime.' That always really bothered me."
Mother: "What?!"
Me: "Needless to say I have no use for teachers like that. Did this teacher not consider the emotional impact that showing a film like that could have on impressionable young people? Well apparently not..."
Mother swears a few choice words... bleep.
Me: "It would be important for you now to draw on the strength of the pilot that is part of you Tara. He was afraid of nothing... not even his own demise."
Tara and Mother agree.
Mother: "Tara is off to college soon. What looks like a good career for her?"
Me: "Well she's a "builder" and it looks like the study of architecture would be a good track. There is a possibility that she could be involved in the building of a hospital and if that's the case she will obviously need to conquer her fear of cities. There will be some delay with her higher education though and it may take a little longer."
Mother and daughter look at one another curiously.
Me: "Is something wrong?"
Mother smiles and says, "No she's enrolled in _______ and is going to study architecture."
So there you have it. It really happened believe it or not. I did hear from Tara several months later and she was doing quite well. Her fears had subsided and she was functioning happily. She told me she could not even trigger the anxiety when she tried. Several years later she also graduated from college (took a little longer than expected) with a degree in architecture.
What is rather mind-blowing and unexpected by even Tara is that in the years that followed, she developed a strong pull to join the Air Force where she still is today. She cannot explain why this happened. She is currently stationed in an undisclosed location serving the USA.
