In Medeval times there was a group called "Troubadours". They were a group of traveling mistrels of sorts. They would give people a liittle song, a little dance, some drama, and storytelling. It was the first incarnation of the 'variety show'. Today we would call them "Bards". The Troubadours would perform for nobles and peasants alike. It didn't matter to them either way.
For the most part their beliefs fell into the Hellinitic way, with most Troubadours having a high regard for the God known as "Eros", the Greek God of Love. For this reason, most of their stories involved a love story at some place in the narrative. The type of story they would tell would depend on the audience listening in. The nobles enjoyed stories of Knights and Kings that overcame near impossible odds to become victorious. The poor and working class enjoyed stories of Witches and Magic.
Looking at the fact that it was a time when the Roman Catholic Chiurch was burning Witches its easy to see why. The Witches that were accused all came from poor and working class families. None of the Witches were Nobles. It was considered unwise to accuse a noble of Witchcraft when they can evict you from your home and your county.....if you're lucky. With so many of the poor and working class losing family members to the paranoia, its no wonder this was what they wanted to hear about.
Most of these stories still exist today in some form. And the originals are starting to be found. So I thought I'd do a video series on some of these stories. To begin, I choose a story that everyone knows from their childhood. Although the story has changed so much over the years, it currently doesn't appear anything like the original. It was a story for the poor and middle class, and yes, it does have a Witch....and a love story. In the original a young Witch named Valerie from the fictional village of Daggerhorn falls in love with a young woodcutter. But Daggerhorn is a village under the curse of something monstrous. This is part one of the original......
