I wrote this last year. I thought it was good enough for a repeat look by some new faces. Thanks.

The Yule Log

When Winter's chilly fingers come creeping down the street
And you pull your boots from their hiding place for the cold upon your feet
Please spare a thought for Summer whose passage is complete
And he lies down for his long rest till the robins sing him awake.
While the Yule log gives its warmth again.

When the wind comes singing through the land and your chimes ring out their tune
And your frost covered windows make you stay in bed till noon
Please spare a thought for the homeless ones who've been there since late June
Before you pull the covers back over yourself to thank the Goddess for your room
While the Yule log gives its warmth again.

When the icy fingers of the cold come stalking the unforgiven
And the beauty found in the snowflakes only bring a harder condition
Please spare a thought for the Gypsies just searching for a position
As they're kicked and pushed from village and town because a judge had made a desicion.
While the Yule log gives its warmth again.

When the turkey is in the oven and the presents are bought for the kids
And the mistletoe gives you goosebumps for the loved one that you kissed
Please spare a thought for the Holly King that they redressed all in red
And turned him into some astronaut because they thought that he stayed dead
While the Yule log gives its warmth again.

When the christians tell their side of things of the boy born in a barn
Its nice to think he was sung to sleep by the animals on the farm
We can afford to spare a thought for the years when he had nothing but his thoughts
As he got arrested for just talking and befriending the wrong sort
While the Yule log gives its warmth again.
